A fine and most beautiful Louis XVI Sealing Wax case with hinged opening top, C.1760.

Not only a superb example of the extravagant and elaborate style of the Louis XVI period but also of the high quality of craftsmanship demanded by the aristocratic clientele of the period.

The tapering body of Banded Agate, with Rose Gold Rococo mounts, Diamond set with fine Rubies on the push piece and spring rivet.


This magnificent object is together with its original fitted Gold tooled, Morocco Red Leather, velvet lined traveling case.

An important  and most impressive desk accessory in perfect condition, surviving from the mid eighteenth century. 

Placed on a grand Louis XVI desk, it would have contained an essential stick of sealing wax. And with a change of location, taken safely in its beautiful traveling case.


The agate case measuring ; 105mm x 25mm.


 

Contained within its original fitted Gold tooled, Morocco Red Leather, velvet lined traveling case.
