Please quote Stock # 2705

A fine and rare example of a George IV silver gilt vinaigrette by Thomas Shaw, of larger than average size and in almost as new condition. C.1827

The top and bottom of the vinaigrette with beautiful, "crisp" and finely detailed borders of foliage and flower heads surrounding engine turned panels, the top with monogram JW.

The lid (which is still tight to open), opening to reveal a magnificent finely pieced and engraved 'rose window' grille, which its self is still quite tight and unused.

The vinaigrette measuring 4 x 3cm and in excellent, virtually 'as new' condition, with no damage at all or repairs.

This particular vinaigrette is twice the size of the average vinaigrette of the period and is truly most impressive.

The original gilding is retained throughout and possess a beautiful glow and lustre.

The magnificent finely pieced and engraved 'rose window' grille, which its self is still quite tight and unused.

The base of the vinaigrette, the borders of foliage and flower heads surrounding engine turned panels remain sharply defined and beautifully "crisp".

It is very rare to find a piece from the Georgian period maintaining this particular sharpness of detail through lack of ware and use, it is quite outstanding.

Hallmarks in the lid top showing the Sovereign's Head, the makers mark and the Birmingham date letter for 1827.

Hallmarks inside the vinaigrette under the grill, showing the Sterling mark, the makers mark and the date letter.

The grill is also struck on its underside with the Birmingham date letter for 1827 as well.
