Vintage 9ct. Gold wristwatch

by Vertex, C.1926.

The Swiss watch making firm of Vertex started in 1920 and produced a range of high grade watches. Along with other leading Swiss manufacturers,Vertex won contracts to supply the British military with chronometer grade waterproof wristwatches during the second world war. The original 1920s factory appears to have closed, however, the brand continues to this day.

A rare Swiss wristwatch of high quality with a most appealing vintage appearance.

Please quote Stock # 2952.

A gentleman's large rectangular vintage 9ct. Gold wristwatch by Vertex, C.1926, with high grade Lever movement.

The original silvered dial with some fading and ageing, subsidiary seconds, Arabic numerals and original blued steel hands. The dial signed by the city Jeweller, "Wilson & Sharp Ltd Edinburgh".

The high grade movement jewelled to the centre & with Geneva stripes signed "Vertex".

The beautiful rectangular hinged case, in excellent condition, struck with model # 2342 and case # 291724 with British Hallmarks for the year 1926.

The quality of this beautiful vintage wristwatch is quite superb, the Vertex movement in this stylish timepiece was of the highest grade made by this Swiss manufacturer and is in excellent condition. The bridges are beautifully embellished with Geneva stripes and the train fully Jewelled to the centre.

The dial does indeed have some ageing, and in fact enhances the wonderful vintage appearance.

The retailers name "Wilson & Sharp Ltd Edinburgh" appears on the dial.

Having a well established Jewellers name on the dial was a common feature of watches from this period. Strong brand following had not yet developed, and confidence in ones county or city Jeweller, with his expert advice and selection of stock, was placed well before the importance of a watch brand.
