A large Aviators vintage wristwatch C.1940 (Observation Watch) Model # FL 23883.

These famous high grade wrist chronometers were contracted by the German Airforce from several fine Swiss & German manufacturers all to the same very high specification.

They were given stringent Chronometer testing before being issued to the Pilots and navigators of the Luftwaffe.

This particular timepiece was manufactured by the firm of "Stowa", The beautiful Swiss movement has no less than Twenty Jewels and a micrometer adjustment to the regulator.

It was essential that these watches achieved the highest standards as their main use was for long distance navigation work.

The military specification Nickel case with fixed strap lugs and the "Observation" classification # FI 23883 can be seen stamped on the side.

The case back struck inside with the watch ordinance records ;- Mvt # 6075 Case #23883 Gerat # 127- Werk #6075 Anforderz # FI 23883.

These movements were tested by the German Naval Observatory then given certification for use by the Luftwaffe.
Each "Observation" watch had the classification # FI 23883.stamped into the side.
Although of very large proportions, these watches were worn on the wrist, as can be seen on the left. However, it was quite common for the watch to be worn over the flying jacket.

The condition of the historical timepiece is good, with the watch going well and keeping good time. It does however, show the signs of active service use.
