A Gentleman's Vintage Rolex, "Bubble Back" self winding, waterproof Chronometer, 14ct. Rose Gold, C.1934.
A beautiful and very rare example of mid 1930s Gentleman's Vintage Rolex " Bubble Back" Oyster Perpetual Chronometer wristwatch, in a most handsome 14ct. deep, rich Rose Gold, in quite exceptional and original condition.
The classic Art Deco period Rolex Oyster case with semi hooded lugs and plain canted bezel.
The case back beautifully domed to accommodate the early self winding rotor mechanism and so acquiring the famous nick name "Bubble Back".
Struck with Rolex serial numbering for the year C.1934.
The case signed; "Rolex Genève Suisse" with Swiss Control marks for 14ct Gold. Case diameter. 32 mm.
The high grade Rolex 1/2’’’, Chronometer movement in superb condition, rhodium-plated, with straight line lever escapement, self-compensating balance spring, signed; "Rolex Swiss Made Chronometer".
The classic silvered dial with centre seconds, in totally original condition, Arabic luminous numerals and original blued steel luminous hands. Signed : "Rolex Oyster Perpetual Chronometer Swiss Made".
The dial with only very slight spotting, seen only under magnification. A light age blemish just appearing at the three o'clock position.
As a highly functional and practical timepiece these stylish Art Deco 1930s “Bubble Back” models are truly quite beautiful, they possess a distinctly unique vintage charm, a soft, rounded appearance and "feel" soon to be lost, due not only to changing design trends but also to the changing technology and production methods of the coming decades.

Good vintage "Bubble "Back models such as this, are high on many a Rolex collectors list of desired acquisitions. Rare Rose Gold examples are very hard to find indeed, the combination of the 1930s Art deco case and dial design, together with the rich, deep Rose Gold make such models extremely attractive, especially so when in such outstanding condition.
