A fine and rare Gentleman's waterproof vintage Rolex Oyster, Shock-Resisting manual wristwatch with subsidiary seconds. Rolex Model ref # 4499 in superb and original condition.

The classic Oyster case in steel, with original waterproof screw-down Oyster button and milled edge case back. Struck with a Rolex serial number for the year 1946 and signed Rolex.

The high grade manual wind, lever movement in excellent condition signed "Rolex Swiss Made 17 Jewels".

The handsome original dial with subsidiary seconds dial, aged to a beautiful Ivory tone ( a very small mark under "shock"), with raised Gold Arabic numerals and dagger baton indexes. Original Blued Steel "Feuille" hands.

This beautiful vintage Rolex Oyster is most interesting as it is a transitional model in the Oyster case design, linking the very Deco 1930s models to the 1950s Oyster models which started to take on the form and appearance of today's classic Oyster models.

The use of a subsidiary seconds dial, together with the classic raised Arabic numerals and dagger batons are typical of the vintage Oyster format, with the traditional provision of classic blued steel hands from an even earlier watch design period.

The original 1940s famous "Oyster" screw-down button is pure Deco design, with the plain flat top struck with "Rolex Oyster". It is becoming harder to find vintage Rolex Oyster examples as original as this wonderful timepiece, especially having their original Oyster winding button, such as on this beautiful vintage Rolex.

Not only is the button original but it is in a most excellent and crisp condition.
