A most handsome example of a classic vintage Tonneau shaped Gentleman's Wristwatch by Rolex in Sterling Silver.C.1940.

The original dial signed "Rolex Swiss Made", with some attractive aging patina, raised Silver Arabic numerals and double minute track. The subsidiary seconds dial with numerals ten to sixty within a chapter ring and double track for the seconds.

The original blued steel hands with a beautiful vintage metallic lustre.

The Sterling Silver, classic Tonneau shaped case with wire lugs and snap-on back, signed "Rolex 25 Worlds Records Geneva Suisse", and with British and Irish import markings for the year 1930.

The high grade Leaver movement in superb condition, signed ; "Rolex 15 Rubies Swiss Made Fab Suisse Patent Super Balance".

This model was first seen in the mid 1920s,being produced and retailed well into the late 1930s.

Throughout war torn 1940s Europe, high grade wristwatches such as produced by Rolex were in very, very short supply, due in the main to the high demand for timepieces by governments and the military and to the perils of overseas shipment.

Models which might have been considered slightly dated at that time would have been eagerly purchased. So avaricious would have been the demand, that watch manufacturers would have exported their most ancient and unfashionable stock.
