A very handsome example of an early Gentleman's Vintage Rolex wristwatch, in Sterling Silver, with hinged lugs, C.1923. The case is that of the classic First World War "Officers" design, numbered and signed "Rolex 7 Worlds Records Geneva Suisse RWC.Ltd" with British Import Hallmarks struck for the year 1923. The original engine turned dial Dial with sun ray pattern, Signed Rolex and with the retailers name signed "Neil Belfast". It is not uncommon to find a retailers name on wristwatches of this period. The 1920s was a period before strong name branding. For many purchasers of high grade watches and Jewellery in the 1920s, the retailers name and reputation held far more importance than any brand name. The Swiss Lever movement signed "Rolex Swiss Made". The beautiful, original Blued Steel hands intact. The hinged lugs, classic Roman numerals, together with the most attractive blued steel hands, make this a truly elegant and stylish timepiece. The strap is classic brown calf, a replica of the First World War "Officers" straps first used in the trenches. I can also have these made in real Alligator in any colour, you desire. The condition of this beautiful Vintage Rolex Wristwatch is excellent throughout.

Amongst the many soldiers returning from the trenches, this early design remained very popular indeed, due mainly to nostalgia for its familiar appearance, and a very conservative attitude to change, even with the introduction of more modern case designs at the time, it continued to sell.
This particular classic First World War "Officers" case design was in general production by Rolex up until the introduction of the Oyster case in 1927. By the early thirties, with advances in technology and the advent of more waterproof and "modern" case designs, production ceased.
