One of the most sought after and indeed rarest Rolex, Vintage 1940's case designs. Magnificent and most distinctive "Horn Shaped", sometimes referred to as "Teardrop" lugs, adorn this classic 18ct. Gold timepiece, giving a wonderfully late Art Deco appearance to this rare model. The 18ct. Gold case is in excellent condition, with Snap-On back, -fully signed:- "Rolex Geneve Suisse, ref # 4332 & with Swiss control marks. (Case Diameter; 33mm, from tip to tip 44mm). The most attractive, original dial, signed; "Rolex Precision" with the Rolex "Crown" logo. The dial surface now faded with age, however, this is unvarying over the dial surface, with no scratches or abrasion. The stylized, typically Art-Deco numerals are in raised gilt, and they too are most attractive. The manual, high grade Rolex Lever movement is in excellent condition, signed:- "Rolex Precision 17 Rubis Swiss Made Patented Superbalance", and keeping perfect time.

"Teardrop" or "Horn" shaped lugs are wonderfully attractive on vintage wristwatches, a design feature typical of watches produced by the great Swiss manufacture's through the latter part of the Deco period. However, such a vintage 1940's case design from Rolex, employing such attractive lugs is very, very rare indeed and now hardly ever found.

To find such a rare and beautiful vintage Rolex model, in its self is quite exceptional, however, for it to be in 18ct. Gold is even more so, as many models from this period were in 9ct. Gold, made as they were for the massive market that was at that time still the British Empire. |
