A most rare and fine, Antique miniature (41mm), French cut glass Perfume Bottle with finely engine turned Gold cap, contained within its original Shagreen case. C.1780

Hobnail cut with a Monogram to the central panel, the lozenge shaped bottle is cut and engraved to the very highest standard.

This wonderful eighteenth century miniature perfume bottle still retains its original internal glass stopper, Gold cap and outer case.

Shagreen was used extensively during the 18th & 19th centuries as a fine and more decorative alternative to leather. It was produced from different types of fish skin. The strongest from Shark skin, the finest from eel skin. Mostly dyed in differing shades of green, it is possible to find examples of other colours being used.

The monogram engraved on the cut glass bottle matches that on the finely engraved and engine turned Gold cap "SC".

The Condition of the Perfume Bottle is excellent, with no damage or distress what so ever. The Outer Shagreen case , however, has indeed some distress to one side only of the case.

Stock # 1832 Size of Bottle: 41mm x 11mm x 7mm Price £675.00
