A very attractive pair of high grade Antique French Opera Glasses.C.1890. Beautifully enameled with flowers and garlands,with "Jeweled" enamel panels
"Jewelling" in enameling terms refers to the raised half pearl enamel beads surrounding the central cartushe of flowers and bordering the garlands.
The eye pieces and focusing ring are of "Mother of Pearl", the metal work, beautifully gilded.
On the left can be seen a close-up of the "Jeweled" panel, a 19th century technique now sad to say,a lost art.
The overall condition is very good with no damage but with some "Jewelling" missing. However, it is only a small amount and does not detract from the very pretty appearance of these charming Opera Glasses.The optics are perfect and most useful.
