An Omega, British Military issue high grade waterproof Chronometer quality wristwatch in steel. with subsidiary seconds dial.C.1945. These military issue timepieces were special government contract orders, constructed to the very highest quality, unavailable to the general public, with features and specifications not normally found on civilian timepieces. Such government contracts were won by the most famous and prestigious watch manufacturers of the day, such as Omega, Rolex, Jaeger LeCoultre and IWC. The matt black dial in superb condition, signed "Omega Swiss Made" and with the British Government "Broad Arrow" Military issue symbol. Military specification high visibility white solid numerals, with luminous dots, hour and minute hands. White subsidiary seconds hand. A most interesting and important feature of this beautiful timepiece is the high grade calibre 30-T2 movement. This magnificent vintage Omega movement Cal.30-T2, was produced to the very highest Chronometer grade standard for military use, demanding a tolerance of only +/- ten seconds per day. The lug bars are of solid steel as opposed to the hollow sprung bar type used on civilian wristwatches. A British military issue feature to ensure that the watch would not come adrift, even under the most rigorous of combat conditions. The watch case built to British military specifications is of a highly robust waterproof construction, with a screwed-down case back and glands sealing the winding stem. Every aspect of the military specification was to ensure the integrity, accuracy and effectiveness of the timepiece under the most arduous of combat conditions. |

The screw-on case back with British Military ordinance marks :- W.W.W. ( Waterproof Wrist Watch). Y 23572 ( Military order code). 10687771 (Military serial case number).
These wonderful 1940s military timepieces were usually worn on either leather straps or Khaki webbing straps. Today we tend to use current NATO "G10"military nylon straps which are as close as possible to the original 1940s webbing straps. |
The condition of the case, dial & movement is excellent' with only very light surface scratches to the case. The high grade Chronometer movement too is in quite superb condition. As seen above, the lug bars are of solid steel as opposed to the hollow sprung bar type used on civilian wristwatches. A British military issue feature to ensure that the watch would not come adrift, even under the most rigorous of combat conditions. |
