The Omega "Marine Standard" ( Omega ref# CK 3635). A fine and rare Gentleman's vintage Omega waterproof wristwatch in Steel C.1939.

A rugged sports model designed by the famous case maker Francis Baumgartner, ( designer of many early waterproof watch case designs culminating in the Rolex "Oyster" case) to withstand immersion in water to a depth of ten meters. This was achieved by the case back being clamped together with the case top, a gasket sealing the case under pressure from two case clamps at twelve and six between the lugs. The winding stem sealed with a gland.

The plexiglas with its own gasket, fitted under the case top and placed in position from inside the case as opposed to being fitted from the front. The plexiglas was formed with a ridge around its edge, this held it in position with its gasket beneath.

The combination of a gland on the winding stem, a gasket sealed case back and plexiglas, provided the necessary protection from the ingress of water to two atmospheres, (10 meters).

The black dial, with subsidiary seconds, classically Deco in appearance, has been expertly and sympathetically restored to the exact vintage design and to the very highest standard. Signed "Omega Swiss Made". The chapter ring with Arabic numerals and double minute track. Original gilt luminous hands.

The Steel case signed "Omega Fab Suisse Swiss Made Acier Staybrite" and with US and European Patents.

The case design of this most beautiful and rare vintage Omega is quite outstanding, being truly classic Art-Deco, having beautiful two-tone stepped sides to the rectangular shaped case. This wonderful vintage sports wristwatch, due to the robust nature of its construction has a very sturdy, well-built feel as well as being very good looking.

The Omega movement contained within this highly engineered case is the high grade Cal.T17, in superb and original condition.

This rare and most interesting "Marine Standard" model was produced by Omega to provide a popular waterproof sports model within their 1930s range of wristwatches, a model that would successfully compete with the famous Rolex Oyster.

The first "Marine" model of 1935 (stock # 3023) was, what we might perhaps refer to today as a "professional" divers model. In fact one of the very first.

The first Omega "Marine" C.1935.

Although marketed to the public as a highly waterproof and stylish sports wristwatch, this first "Marine" model was in effect a purpose made "divers" timepiece, waterproof to a depth of an amazing 135 meters.

However, unlike the later "Marine Standard", it was very inconvenient to use, as winding and setting required the inner case to be unlocked and "slid out" from its outer case. It appears that this first model continued to be sold alongside the later more conventional "Marine Standard" with its far greater ease of use.

The gasket visible around the inner edge of the case back and the two high pressure clamps at either end of the case between the lugs.

The beautiful Omega Cal.T17 high grade movement sitting protected, within a solid central frame, lending support and strength to the waterproof case.

A truly magnificent model.
