Thomas Russell & Son, Liverpool.

A Gentleman's rare Half Hunting cased

Keyless 18ct. Rose Gold Pocket Watch,

with Power Reserve indication C.1907.

Please quote Stock # 3128.

A most unusual and very rare high grade, Gentleman's Half Hunting cased Keyless Pocket Watch, in 18ct. Rose Gold with Power Reserve Indication and subsidiary seconds dial. C.1907, by Thomas Russell & Son, Liverpool.

The unusual combination of a power reserve dial and such an oversized window are possibly unique.

Thomas Russell & Son held the Royal Warrant and were a major supplier of marine chronometers and deck watches to the Admiralty and the Merchant Navy.

The two extremely rare features for this wonderful Half Hunter, are those of a "Power Reserve" dial, more usually seen on Marine Chronometers and Deck Watches, and a massive Half Hunting Window through which to observe the time, running seconds and the state of power of the mainspring.

Such a particularly unusual case design, and the case struck with the Thomas Russell & Son case makers mark "TR", would suggest that this rare timepiece might have been a special commission for a maritime client.

The size of the viewing aperture in the lid is enormous compared to a conventional half hunter, the chapter ring beautifully enamelled with fine blue Roman numerals, taking up most of the surface of the top cover.

The power reserve feature is not normally seen on half or full Hunters but on open face watches, this alone would make this piece exceptionally rare. However, it is the combination of these two features, the power reserve and the very large window, that make this watch not only extremely rare, but possibly unique, and I must add most attractive.

The engine turned "sunburst" silvered dial signed, "Thomas Russell & Son, Liverpool", with Power Reserve Indication dial and subsidiary seconds dial.

Arabic numerals with dot indexes and classic Blued Steel Spade Hands set to the correct time by a push pin at 3.30.

The magnificent Half Hunting 18ct. Rose Gold Case, of a very heavy and substantial construction, made in Thomas Russell & Son's own workshops to the very highest standards of the then, world renown English case making trade.

Struck with Hallmarks for 18ct. Gold and the year 1907. Case makers mark "TR" for Thomas Russell & Son.

The high grade three quarter plate English Lever, gilt, jewelled movement, signed "Thomas Russell & Son, Makers to Queen Victoria Liverpool", # 109621, "Tempus Fugit" , with screwed Chatons, bi-metallic balance and beautifully engraved balance cock.
