A magnificent high grade, British Military Issue Chronometer Deck Watch, sold by The Northern Goldsmiths Co. Newcastle -Upon -Tyne to the Royal Navy C.1917. Used in conjunction with a sextant to establish the ships position at sea, these superb Deck Watches were the finest timepieces available, their accuracy and reliability were paramount. This particular example is in outstanding and original condition. The Sterling Silver inner case with London Hallmarks for the year 1917. The White Enamel Dial with Admiralty Arrow, sunken inner panel,centre seconds and Roman numerals. Signed "The Northern Goldsmiths Co. Newcastle -Upon -Tyne" and chronometer testing number 2025. The English made high grade lever movement, with Going Barrel, Diamond Endstone and Screwed Chatons. With the Admiralty Arrow and chronometer testing number 2025. Contained in its fitted, three tier Mahogany, locking glazed “Deck Case”. The inner Sterling Silver watch is retained and protected by a gilt brass screw bezel, as the inner Sterling Silver watch case was never Intended to be removed for use outside of the gilt brass protective housing. |

The English made high grade gilt lever movement, going barrel, Diamond Endstone, Screwed Chatons. With Admiralty Arrow and chronometer testing number 2025. This fabulous movement is in almost as new condition, with the original Bluing on the screws with very little sign of use. Made to the highest standards with the large Ruby Jewels retained by screwed chatons as is the Diamond Endstone. The bi-metalic balance wheel fitted with the most beautiful Pink Gold timing screws. This inner Sterling Silver watch is retained and protected by a gilt brass screw bezel, as the inner Sterling Silver watch case was never Intended to be removed for use outside of the gilt brass protective housing.

Recognizing hydrographic information was a military advantage naval organizations, usually under the direction of a "Hydrographer," utilized the expertise of naval officers in collecting hydrographic data that was incorporated into the navy's collection.
