A most rare and beautiful, vintage Cartier Platinum and Diamond set, cocktail bracelet wristwatch,with Duo-Plan back wind movement, in superb and original condition throughout. C.1935.
This beautiful vintage Cartier timepiece contained within the original fitted red leather velvet lined Cartier box.
The very Deco "Baguette" case in Platinum, with polished tapering and beveled top, set with two rows of beautiful high grade Diamonds. A fine satin finish to the sides and case back.
The integral woven cable Platinum bracelet in excellent condition, with beautiful domed ends, Pave set with superb Rose cut Diamonds.
The Deco designers of the 1930's, inspired as they were by cubism, required symmetry and clean lines in their watch case designs. To this end they asked LeCoultre, one of the worlds great watchmakers and movement designers, to provide a movement that would do away with the conventional winding button positioned at the side of the case, a design feature on conventional wristwatches they considered to detract from the symmetry of the case design.
LeCoultre came up with the "Duo-Plan" an amazing innovation in wristwatch movement design that placed the winder in a position laying flat at the back of the watch, thereby allowing the wristwatch case designers of the period, free rein to produce the most artistic and inventive "Baguette" case designs.This wonderful 1930's Cartier is a classic example of their work.
The famous LeCoultre Duo-Plan movement C.1930.
The high grade "Duo-Plan" LeCoultre movement in this fabulous vintage Cartier is signed;- "European Watch & Clock Co. 15 Jewels Fab Suisse", with movement numbering. The case with Serial and Cartier reference numbering.
The European Watch & Clock Co. were an agency used by Cartier to source their movements from the highest grade Swiss watchmakers of the day, such as LeCoultre, Patek Philippe and Movado.
As one would expect from the prestigious house of Cartier, this beautiful vintage timepiece is not only of a most elegant design but also constructed in all respects, to the very highest standards.
With the use of Platinum for the case and bracelet, a very dense and heavy precious metal, the "Feel" of the watch is very much one of solidity and quality.
