An IWC MK X, British Military issue high grade waterproof Chronometer quality wristwatch in steel. with subsidiary seconds dial.C.1945.

These WWW ( Waterproof Wrist Watch) military issue timepieces were special government contract orders, constructed to the very highest quality, unavailable to the general public, with features and specifications not normally found on civilian timepieces. Such government contracts were won by the most famous and prestigious watch manufacturers of the day, such as Omega, Rolex, Jaeger LeCoultre and IWC.

The IWC Mk X "WWW" is unique in that it possess a "snap-on" case back with a gasket, rather than the conventional "screw-on" case back found on all other WWW military wristwatches. Only the high grade and precise engineering of the legendary IWC production was able to produce the required water resistance demanded by the British Military specifications. All other manufacturers used screw-on case backs.

The matt black dial in superb original condition, signed "IWC" and with the British Government "Broad Arrow" Military issue symbol. Military specification high visibility white solid numerals, with subsidiary seconds dial, luminous dots, hour and minute hands.

Two most interesting and important features of this beautiful timepiece are the high grade calibre 83 movement and the finely engineered snap-on case back.

The magnificent vintage IWC movement Cal.83, was produced to the very highest Chronometer grade standard for military use, demanding a tolerance of only +/- ten seconds per day.

The lug bars are of solid steel as opposed to the hollow sprung bar type used on civilian wristwatches. A British military issue feature to ensure that the watch would not come adrift, even under the most rigorous of combat conditions.

Every aspect of the military specification was to ensure the integrity, accuracy and effectiveness of the timepiece under the most arduous of combat conditions.

These wonderful 1940s military timepieces were usually worn on either leather straps or Khaki webbing straps. Today we tend to use current NATO "G10"military nylon straps which are as close as possible to the original 1940s webbing straps.

However a modern conventional black leather strap may be attached.

This very rare and beautiful vintage IWC MKX WWW timepiece has been back to the IWC factory in Switzerland for a complete overhaul and service, as a result the watch is now in near mint condition and comes with an IWC storage case, factory Guarantee card and hard bound extract from the archives.

IWC are one of the few Swiss Watch Manufacturers offering the facility of extracts from a massive archive production database.

A major benefit is that the watch once examined at the IWC factory, and the entry for the watch found, may be authenticated without question, as the movement number and case number must tally with the information held in the IWC archives. This removes any question of a marriage between case and movement.

In addition, a complete IWC factory service and overhaul to the entire watch will ensure that all parts are correct, all is working perfectly, with the case finish correctly carried out to its original specification and surface finish.

This fabulous Timepiece has the advantage of having undergone such a factory overhaul and comes with the service card and an extract from the IWC archives confirming its important military provenance and date of issue as 1945.
