A truly stunning French Silver & Parcel Gilt & Enamel strut clock C.1900 of the highest quality,colour and patination, mounted with a swivel arched top panel between ears of corn, depicting age & youth. The clock with Diamond mounted bezel, plaque with swags and garlands.

 

René Baudichon (born in Tours/France, 1878-1963) first attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Tours and went on to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1897, where he received his first awards. His teachers were Barrias, Sicard, Vernon and Roty. From 1903 Baudichon exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais. In 1904 he won a a third-class medal at the Salon de Paris, the Société des Artistes Francais awarded him a silver medal in 1914 and a gold medal in 1921. After World War I, Baudichon established an alternative niche for himself with sporting prize medals. Examples of Baudichon’s medals can be found in the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, and the British Museum, London.

 

An unusual and very attractive "Arts & Crafts" style division of green translucent enamel windows let-in to the plaque above the legend “Par le Grace De Dieu”.

The miniature clock with rare "Bezel Wind and Hand Set" mechanism let-in to the plaque surrounded with Diamonds, swags and ribbon's of the finest detail.

The Silver & Parcel Gilt panels typical of René Baudichon, in this magnificent piece are of "Youth" and "Age" and are excellent examples of his work.

The panel can be swiveled round to reveal either "Age" or "Youth". In the right hand corner of the panel can be seen the signature of René Baudichon.

French Control marks are clearly struck in various positions around the piece.

A rare and fine Strut Clock by a most prestigious maker, in mint condition.
